บัฟเฟตต์ไม่ปลื้มทองคำสักเท่าไร ถึงแม้ผู้คนจะแห่ลงทุนทองคำ เขาเคยพูดไว้ว่า เมื่อตอนที่เทกโอเวอร์เบิร์กไชร์ฯ ราคาทองอยู่ที่ 20 ดอลลาร์ต่อออนซ์ ราคาหุ้นเบิร์กไชร์อยู่ที่ 15 ดอลลาร์ แต่ปัจจุบันราคาทองอยู่ที่ 1,600 ดอลลาร์ ราคาหุ้นเบิร์กไชร์อยู่ที่ 120,000 ดอลลาร์ต่อหุ้น
อีกเคล็ดลับ คือ ซื้อในสิ่งที่คุณมีความรู้ แม้ยักษ์เทคโนโลยีอย่างกูเกิลและแอปเปิลจะเป็นที่หมายปอง แต่ไม่ใช่สำหรับบัฟเฟตต์และมังเกอร์ ซึ่งบริษัทเหล่านี้อยู่นอกเหนือความสามารถหยั่งรู้ของทั้งคู่ ดังที่บัฟเฟตต์เคยพูดว่า หากคุณซื้อธุรกิจที่ราคาต่ำกว่ามูลค่า คุณจะทำเงินได้ และหากคุณรู้ว่าธุรกิจอะไรที่สามารถสร้างมูลค่าและไม่สร้างมูลค่า คุณก็จะทำเงินได้
อีกเทคนิค ที่ต้องเรียนรู้ นั่นคือ รอคอยราคาที่เหมาะสม เพราะนอกเหนือจากการลงทุนในธุรกิจที่มีความรู้จริงๆ เสน่ห์ของหุ้นอยู่ที่บริษัทต่างๆ ขายมันในราคาที่น่าสงสาร และนี่ทำให้บัฟเฟตต์และชาร์ลีร่ำรวย

... น่าเห็นใจคนมีตังค์นะ ช่วยไม่ได้ ไม่รู้จักพอเพียง ตามที่พ่อสอนไว้ ... ถ้าให้ดี ต้องเอาไปซื้อหุ้นปูนใหญ่ SCB หรือ ช่วยอุดหนุนโรงแรมเคมพิน ไปเที่ยวสวนน้ำสเปน ... นั่นแหละ ถึงจะเรียกว่าพอเพียงอย่างแท้จริง

สเปนคือภาพจำลองของไทยในปี ๒๕๔๐ แต่ในยุโรปตอนนี้ถูกกลบไปด้วยเรื่องข่าวของกรีซ ฝรั่งเศส
รัฐบาลสเปนเข้าไปเทคโอเวอร์ธนาคาร ตอนปี 2540 เอกธนกิจจะควบรวมกับไทยธนุ แต่ไม่ผ่าน สถานการณ์ตอนนั้นเหมือนกับสเปนในตอนนี้ แต่เศรษฐกิจไทยมีขนาดเล็กมากของตลาดโลก ต่อให้เราล้มทั้งประเทศในปี 2540 โลกก็ไม่กระเทือน แต่สเปน ปัญหาเหมือนไทยคล้ายๆ กัน แต่รุนแรงกว่า และขนาดของสินทรัพย์นั้นมีขนาดใหญ่มาก เมื่อรัฐบาลเข้าไปเทคโอเวอร์ธนาคารระดับ 3 ในสเปน ผลก็คือ ทำให้ตลาดเริ่มกลับมาเชื่อมั่นนิดหนึ่ง
ผลก็คือว่า มองไปด้านไหนก็มีแต่ความเสี่ยงไปหมด ระดับโลก หากว่ากรีซไม่แสดงท่าทีว่าจะเบี้ยว และฝรั่งเศสไม่แสดงท่าทีเช่นนี้ทางการคลัง นักลงทุนทั่วโลกก็น่าจะปล่อยกู้ให้สเปนต่อไป แต่เมื่อฝรั่งเศสส่งสัญญาณเบี้ยวแล้ว ไม่ต้องขาดดุลการคลัง ต้องกลับมาช่วยฝรั่งเศสก่อน ซึ่งประชาชนโหวตเลือกคนใหม่เข้ามา ก็หมายความว่าเลือกที่จะออกจากยูโร

The arguments about scaling and moving to digital make sense, but I still haven't seen a model that works online. Small circulation newspapers have the luxury the advertising being reasonably steady. The weekly publication especially has many community announcements and local ads. These mostly remain stead, except the cost of people, printing and distribution continues to climb.
Attempts by others to shift these local advertisers to digital has mostly failed (as Patch will see).
I don't think Buffet would go for a loser, but this may just be a modest, moderate gain, if not break-even.
