อาหารอย่างหนึ่งที่มีความสำคัญไม่น้อยสำหรับวันตรุษจีนคือ เกี๊ยว หรือ ภาษาจีนกลางเรียกว่า “เจี่ยวจึ” 饺子 เมื่อถึงเทศกาลตรุษจีนทุกคนต่างพากันเดินทางกลับบ้านเกิดเพื่อมารวมญาติและ ร่วมโต๊ะรับประทานอาหาร และสิ่งที่ขาดไม่ได้ในอาหารมื้อสุดท้ายก่อนจะเข้าสู่วันปีใหม่คือ “เจี่ยวจึ” นั่นเอง เหตุใดต้องเป็นอาหารชนิดนี้ เราจะสังเกตได้ว่ารูปร่างของ “เจี่ยวจึ” จะมีลักษณะคล้ายกับเงินตำลึงของจีนเมื่อสมัยโบราณ ซึ่งมีความหมายว่า ให้ร่ำรวยมั่งมีเงินทอง
